UN Studio designed £ 255 million museum in Dubai


UN Studio architects Ben van Berkel flew to Dubai in the past week to talk about this £ 255 million in the Middle East Museum of Modern Art (Momema).

The heart of Dubai Properties' £ 8 billion Cultural Village project, the scheme will be the first museum in the region of the Middle East, the modern art.

The design combines elements of the sea in Dubai and the maritime tradition and is based on the silhouette of an Arab Dhow sailing.

The museum is 25000sq m on an island in the middle of its own 4.6 million square meters village.


At one end of the museum will have 60 rooms, and restaurants and shops. The village is also an amphitheater, an exhibition space and a yard to the traditional Dhow.

The construction of the museum will be in eight months, and will be until the year 2011.


Van Berkel, said: "The building is well positioned to fully of the situation in the village of culture. With his Dhow increase as a figurehead, the buildings with panoramic views on the environment, and vice versa.

"It is never too many people the museum is becoming public, openings, and the drama. Momema in public, an event of art and business collide and, on the other."
